Pets in the Park will be on May 22nd from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free event is provided with support from The Kiwanis Club of Independence, The Examiner, D.O.G. (Dog Obedience Group), Animals Best Friends, PAW’S, B Vogue, and the Independence Animal Shelter. Toby Cook of the Kansas City Royals will serve as emcee for the Pet Parade.

Discounts  on Micro-Chipping ($10) and Rabies shots (1 year shot – $5).

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presents Fiesta Kansas City! Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at this tenth annual event, which features great music, food, dancing and exhibits. More than 100 food and vendor booths. 2 Stages with Live Entertainment with salsa, merengue, reggeaton, duranguense, norteño, tejano, Latin rock, folkloric dance groups, and much more! Celebrate the spirit of tennis and kick-off the summer season in May, USA Tennis Month. This USTA National Program offers special on-court activities such as Tennis 101, interactive games, and a Kids Zone for you to learn about tennis and show off your skills. Running with the Cows™, Half Marathon, 5K, and Kid’s Trot, is this Saturday May 15th. This event features a beautiful scenic course through the southernmost part of Johnson County, KS. Bring the whole family to enjoy the fresh air and Bovine Fun! They will have:

• the Kids Corral with Cow Crafts and Button Making,
• Moon Walk,
• Tattoos, and
• Face Painting.

There will be a Fire Truck and Ambulance for touring as well as Ident-a-Kid and Car Seat Checks. The kids will have a blast at the mini petting zoo and might even be able to bottle feed a calf – until she gets full! And there will be plenty of great food and MILK for everyone! Race profits will support Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic School and Catholic Relief Services.
