Cooling Centers
The heat warning is in effect throughout the Kansas City Metro area so people are advised to stay cool and get out of the heat. There are people without air conditioning and the various centers in the Metro area are opening up Cooling Centers such as the Salvation Army. You can go into these centers for free today and for the rest of the week (please check their rules) to get cooled down.

The Salvation Army will activate its eight metro community centers Tuesday as cooling centers. Complimentary cold drinks and light snacks will be provided along with a comfortable place to relax and rest.
The cooling centers will be open from 8 a.m. until at least 5 p.m.

Cooling Center in Mission Kansas
The Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center is open as a cooling center and will remain open until June 24. The center is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Olathe Cooling Centers
The City of Olathe is opening cooling centers at its two public library locations. The Olathe Main Library, 201 E. Park Street in downtown, is open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. The Indian Creek Branch Library, 12990 S. Black Bob, is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Johnson County Cooling Centers
You may also cool down at Johnson County’s thirteen library branches. All the facilities will be available during normal business hours. Call (913) 495-2400 to check hours of operation for their nearest library branch.

Heat Warning!
There is an excessive Heat Warning right here in the Kansas City Metro area. Already some people have died from the heat and others are in danger because the temperature is going to be very high. Both Kansas and Missouri issued heat warnings and are advising residents to stay out of the heat and stay cool. There are many locations in the Kansas City Metro area both in the state of Kansas and Missouri that will be open today and for the rest of the week for people to come in and cool down. This is dangerous heat and you are advised to limit outdoor activities if possible.

Where to go to cool down?
All of the YMCA across the Metro are open free of charge for the public to go in and cool down.
The Salvation Army is opening cooling centers for anyone wanting to get inside out of the heat
The Johnson County Library branches and Olathe library have air conditioning and will be open at regular hours and people can go in and cool down.
In the City, various Parks and Recreation departments have pools that are opening from 4-7 pm free to the public. The usually price for these pools are $2 per person.
There is also the Elder Cool Project for the elderly to get free air conditioning. You can donate to The Project Eldercool providing free AC for seniors. For just $90, a senior can get air conditioning installed for free.
Excessive Heat Warning Issued
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect in the Kansas City Metro area through Wednesday. Heat indices will climb to 105 to 110+ during the peak of daytime heating according to NBC Action News. People are advised to drink plenty of water during this stretch of hot weather and also check on friends, family, and the elderly who do not have air conditioning! Elderly folks can get help from Project Eldercool.
