The 4th Annual Wine and Art Event will be on January 28th. Learn about a selection of special wineries chosen just for this event, taste the wines they are producing- from Sauvignon Blanc to Syrah, with appropriate hors d’oeuvres pairings. Enjoy live music and a silent auction of art by our very own Head Start of Shawnee Mission children.

Come to Leawood’s Holiday Traditions on the Prairie and participate in a turn of the century holiday celebration! The Oxford School Docents will host “Holiday Traditions on the Prairie” at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse on Saturday, December 4th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The historic one-room Oxford Schoolhouse is located in Ironwoods Park at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, KS.

Learn about holiday celebrations on the plains at the turn of the twentieth century. Enjoy refreshments, play games, and make crafts based on the holidays of yesteryear. Help string popcorn and cranberries. Join the costumed docents in decorating the tree and singing songs from the past.

Old-time musician Scott Klamm will play traditional American instruments including:

• mountain dulcimer,
• Appalachian mouth bow,
• auto harp,
• guitar and
• mandolin

If you are attending Breakfast with Santa at the Lodge in Ironwoods Park, please visit the schoolhouse while you are in the park. The Prairie Oak Nature center will also hold an open house with activities on this date. Read the rest of this entry »

Back to School Celebration at the Oxford Schoolhouse in Leawood, KS, is this Saturday August 28th. The Historic One-Room Oxford Schoolhouse, located in Ironwoods Park at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, will celebrate the start of the school year with a fun event for kids. The docents of Oxford School, dressed in period costumes, will host this event to take place in and around the schoolhouse from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

Children will be able to make crafts, play games and help hand-crank homemade ice cream. Enjoy refreshments and old-time music performed by the Scott Klamm Band. The Oxford School docents encourage people of all ages to celebrate with them.

The Oxford School House is also available for programs year-round to groups of all ages, by appointment, any day of the week for a nominal fee. Scout programs can fulfill badge requirements. Fieldtrips are offered to elementary school classrooms throughout the school-year.
