Pooch Paddle Special Event in Merriam KS is on today. Join in on the fun for Merriam Aquatic Center “goes to the dogs…” Bring your favorite pooch for a dip in the pool! Merriam aquatic center closed yesterday for the human season and opening for the canine season (for one night anyway). This special open swim for dogs will sure be a “treat” for you and your special pet.

Doggy treats, prizes and toys will be available. Sorry owners. . .no swimming for you, just your dogs! Social dogs only. Dogs must be on a leash until they are in the water. (Provide proof of current vaccination)  Pre-registration is required. Min. 10-Max. 75 dogs per session. Choose one of 2 sessions below and the cost is $5.00 per pooch.

Merriam Feed the Need Food Drive Auction is September 16-18. The City of Merriam will be participating in city-wide “Feed the Need” program from August 31st through September. As part of this food drive, the City will hold an auction, which will be open to the public. Auction includes a large variety of items donated from area businesses. All money from the auction will be given to the Multi-Service Center food pantry for local distribution. This event is open to the public. Bring one non-perishable food item as entry fee for bidding.

Plan ahead for the big book sale event in Johnson County, KS. The September Used Book Sale is going to be huge and it is taking place at the Antioch Neighborhood Library. This event will definitely draw lots of people who want to take advantage of this great book bargain event. Books will be cheap and there will be a large selection to choose from. If you want children’s books, they usually sell out pretty early on so come early if you want some board books.

The Johnson County Fall 2009 Used Book Sale is November 5-7. This is a big used book sale event brought to you by the Friends of the Johnson County Library. This is a bigger used book sale event than the previous few hosted by them. All sales are final. You can use Visa, MasterCard, Discover and checks with proper id. Call 913-261-2319 for more information. The Johnson County Library Used Book Sales usually draw a big crowd everyday so if you want to get some great books, come as early as you can. People come with a cardboard box or a big sack to the event. Lots leave with boxes and boxes of books at great bargain prices. Prices can be as low as 25 cents a book!
