You and your pet are invited to join in on the fun at The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City Pet Reunion Party & Open House this Halloween Saturday October 31st from 1pm to 4pm at the shelter. Have fun, eat, drink, purr, wag your tail, say cheese and win prizes!

They’d love to see you and your adopted pet at this annual Open House & Reunion Party. Dress up your pet for the Halloween costume contest at 2pm. Bring a toy for a shelter pet and receive a free photo of you and your adopted pet. If you haven’t adopted a pet from them, join them for the fun and refreshments and they will give you a tour of the shelter.

The First Dogtoberfest Adopt-a-Thon at Animal Haven, Greater Kansas City’s Largest No Kill Shelter, starts today and will go on all weekend, from October 23rd to October 25th. The largest no kill shelter in the metro is asking for help to adopt dogs or cats. Animal Haven is at its capacity and cannot take in more unless some are adopted. There are hundreds of adoptable dogs & cats ready for a new home — all of them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. At this Dobtoberfest Adopt a Thon event, they will have special activities and give-aways all weekend, including:

• A chance to win one of two new iPod Shuffles!
• Special gift bags given to the first 25 adopters each day!
• Bring your pet in their Halloween costume & have their picture taken
• Face-painting & other family fun!

This Friday through Sunday you can adopt a dog for only $50 (regularly $115). Cats are only $25 (regularly $75).

The Wayside Waifs Adopt-a-Thon started on Friday September 11th. It is going on today from 8am to 6pm and will go on again on Sunday from noon to 6pm. Wayside Waifs is the largest animal shelter in the Kansas City metropolitan area and their adopt-a-thon event this weekend is an attempt to adopt out over 200 animals that are waiting at the shelter for homes. With so many people in the Kansas City area losing homes and losing jobs, many pets have been abandoned or taken to the shelters by the owners.

Wayside Waifs has been seeing an increase in pets brought in. However, with this economy, the number of families that can afford to adopt a pet has also declined. However, by adopting a pet from a shelter, the owner can make pet adoption more affordable. For the Adopt-a-Thon weekend, Wayside Waifs is cutting the cost of adoption in half. Wayside Waifs shelter will be open for extended hours with extra staff and volunteers on hand to help those wishing to adopt pets.
