Hallowesta is back in Wellsville, KS on October 31st. Once again Hallowesta will be held on the actual Halloween night. This free, fun event will be on Saturday, October 31st, 2009 at 4:00pm between 4th and 5th on Main Street. Judging will begin promptly at 4:15pm. Bring all of your witches, goblins and princesses down for a GREAT time! Join the Fire Fighters for a hot dog roast immediately following at the city shop on South Main. Don’t forget to trick-or-treat the town to show of your FANTASTIC Halloween costumes!

Save the date for the 9th Annual Freaky Fall Fest hosted by the City of Leawood Parks and Recreation Department. The City of Leawood Parks and Recreation Department will present the 9th Annual “Freaky Fall Fest”, to be held at Leawood City Park (10601 Lee Blvd.) on Friday, October 23 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Activities will include:

• inflatables and rides,
• pumpkin painting,
• a creepy cake walk,
• the great pumpkin hunt,
• face painters,
• clown
• balloon artists and more.

There will also be:

• dancing
• costume contests (children 10 and under),
• Haunted Hayrides ($2.00 per ride, come early to get your ticket) and
• the 6th Annual “Trunk-or-Treat”.

Participants can enjoy food, music and more at this “spooktacular” event! Don’t miss the fun! “Trunk-or-Treat”, Inflatables, Rides, Pumpkin Painting, and more!

The annual Shawnee Scarecrow Festival is back on Saturday October 3rd. Celebrate the autumn season at the fifth annual Scarecrow Festival, presented by the Shawnee Downtown Partnership Saturday October 3rd at City Hall 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. There will be something for everybody! Businesses are invited to participate in the Scarecrow Contest. Merchants all around downtown will create and display scarecrows for public viewing along Johnson Drive and in front of City Hall. Kids can participate in free pumpkin painting. Pumpkins and decorations will be provided at no cost. Other kids’ activities will be available as well.

For all the chefs out there, be sure to join the baking contest which will include categories for pumpkin pie, fruit pie and pumpkin bread. There will be separate categories for adults and youth. Adult and youth winners receive a $50 prize. Slices of pie and bread will be sold afterwards for $1 to the general public. And, don’t miss out on the Farmers’ Market. Fall crops abound!
