On Friday October 30th, Mad Science of Booville will be at the Roeland Park Community Center. Come spend the day out of school and take part in the Spooktacular Adventure with Countess Courtney or one of her Mad Science instructors. Witness Arachnid Science, watch and discover how science melts magic, listen for the screeching spoons, have fun with flying eyeballs and much, much more. Children can be dropped off between 8:30-9 am (no one will be allowed in any earlier) and must be picked up between 3:30-4 pm. Please bring a sack lunch and a drink. Pre-registration is required and this class will fill quickly.

The 4th Annual Harvest Moon Festival in Peculiar, MO, is on October 31st. The Peculiar Chamber of Commerce is putting on our 4th Annual Harvest Moon Festival on Halloween Day, October 31st. There will be a Halloween parade with lots of floats. Other than the Halloween parade, there are vendor booths as well as lots of fun, family activities. This Peculiar Harvest Moon Festival event will start at 11am and run until 6pm. They will have:

• a live DJ,
• Magic Show,
• petting zoo,
• moonwalks,
• slide,
• train rides, and much more.

It will be a great way to have a Safe and Happy Halloween.

There is also the Harvest Moon Festival Scarecrow Contest so get your crew together, build or buy and dress a scarecrow that best represents your business or the autumn season. Display your scarecrow at your booth, the winner will be announced at the festival & ribbons will be awarded.

“Ghost Tales of Weston” is next Friday October 30th at Main Street Galleria Antuques and Gifts store. One of the most famous ghosts is Captain James D. McCardy, of the 7th Cavalry in Richmond, Virginia of the Confederate Army during the Civil War. His writing desk bearing his name is on display in the Galleria. The name plate on the desk, bears the Captain’s name and the date 1861, Richmond Virginia. When the owner of Main Street Galleria purchased the Civil War era writing desk, she did not know that she had acquired more than just the desk. The ghost of Captain McCardy came with it.

Weston was established in 1837 and at one time boasted the largest population of Western Missouri of over 5,000 not counting livestock and thieves. It was the crossroads of many travelers, merchants and families moving west. Many fell in love with this antebellum town and could never leave. Some still roam the housing and streets to this day. Main Street Galleria & The UpStairs TeaRoom claim 3 of their own.
