Holiday Traditions on the Prairie

Holiday Traditions on the Prairie at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse is this Saturday December 5th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The historic one-room Oxford School is located in Ironwoods Park at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Learn about holiday celebrations on the plains at the turn of the twentieth century. Enjoy refreshments, play games and make crafts based on the holidays of yesteryear. Help string popcorn and cranberries. Join the costumed docents in decorating the tree and singing songs from the past. Old-time musician Scott Klamm will play traditional American instruments including mountain dulcimer, Appalachian mouth bow, auto harp, guitar and mandolin.

If you are attending the Breakfast with Santa at the Lodge in Ironwoods Park, please visit the schoolhouse while you are in the park. The Prairie Oak Nature center will also hold an open house on this date. All Oxford School programs and events are coordinated through the Leawood Historic Commission and Leawood Parks & Recreation Department. The Oxford School docents encourage people of all ages to attend. Admission is free.
