Santa-Cali-Gon Days

One of the largest Labor Day festivals in the nation, Santa-Cali-Gon Days is next weekend. Santa-Cali-Gon Days draws 250,000 people over four days. This festival offers:
- nine large craft tents filled with crafters from throughout the country,
- over fifty food booths,
- carnival,
- free concerts and
- unique contests such as watermelon seed spitting and root beer chugging.
More than 100 local non-profit organizations benefit from Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival.
When is Santa-Cali-Gon Days?
Labor Day Weekend 2010. September 2nd – September 6th.

Sept. 2 – Carnival Only 6 p.m.
Sept. 3 – Noon – 11 p.m.
Sept. 4 – 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Sept. 5 - 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Sept. 6 – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Fire Fest 2010

The Independence 76 Fire Company presents Fire Fest 2010 Saturday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Independence Event Center Parking Lot. Included will be:
- muster games,
- a car show,
- fire truck rides,
- refreshments,
- door prizes,
- a water display,
- raffle and
- souvenir booth.

Pets in the Park
May 17th, 2010
Pets in the Park will be on May 22nd from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free event is provided with support from The Kiwanis Club of Independence, The Examiner, D.O.G. (Dog Obedience Group), Animals Best Friends, PAW’S, B Vogue, and the Independence Animal Shelter. Toby Cook of the Kansas City Royals will serve as emcee for the Pet Parade.
Discounts on Micro-Chipping ($10) and Rabies shots (1 year shot – $5).
