There are many locations in the Kansas City Metro area both in the state of Kansas and Missouri that will be open today and for the rest of the week for people to come in and cool down. This is dangerous heat and you are advised to limit outdoor activities if possible.
Where to go to cool down?
All of the YMCA across the Metro are open free of charge for the public to go in and cool down.
The Salvation Army is opening cooling centers for anyone wanting to get inside out of the heat
The Johnson County Library branches and Olathe library have air conditioning and will be open at regular hours and people can go in and cool down.
In the City, various Parks and Recreation departments have pools that are opening from 4-7 pm free to the public. The usually price for these pools are $2 per person.
There is also the Elder Cool Project for the elderly to get free air conditioning. You can donate to The Project Eldercool providing free AC for seniors. For just $90, a senior can get air conditioning installed for free.
