The annual Johnson County Fair is back. There are many fun events including free events such as:

- Dog Show – obedience
- Horse Show
- Dog Show Agility Trials
- 4-H Food Auction
- Bands in the Park, Cornerstone Park
- Poultry Judging
- Goat Show
- Swine Show
- Rabbit Show

Heat Warning!
There is an excessive Heat Warning right here in the Kansas City Metro area. Already some people have died from the heat and others are in danger because the temperature is going to be very high. Both Kansas and Missouri issued heat warnings and are advising residents to stay out of the heat and stay cool. There are many locations in the Kansas City Metro area both in the state of Kansas and Missouri that will be open today and for the rest of the week for people to come in and cool down. This is dangerous heat and you are advised to limit outdoor activities if possible.

Where to go to cool down?
All of the YMCA across the Metro are open free of charge for the public to go in and cool down.
The Salvation Army is opening cooling centers for anyone wanting to get inside out of the heat
The Johnson County Library branches and Olathe library have air conditioning and will be open at regular hours and people can go in and cool down.
In the City, various Parks and Recreation departments have pools that are opening from 4-7 pm free to the public. The usually price for these pools are $2 per person.
There is also the Elder Cool Project for the elderly to get free air conditioning. You can donate to The Project Eldercool providing free AC for seniors. For just $90, a senior can get air conditioning installed for free.
Excessive Heat Warning Issued
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect in the Kansas City Metro area through Wednesday. Heat indices will climb to 105 to 110+ during the peak of daytime heating according to NBC Action News. People are advised to drink plenty of water during this stretch of hot weather and also check on friends, family, and the elderly who do not have air conditioning! Elderly folks can get help from Project Eldercool.

Johnson County Library Summer Used Book Sale
The Johnson County Library will hold the 2009 Annual Sizzlin’ Summer Used Book Sale in cooperation with Friends of the Library at Metcalf South Shopping Center, 9635 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan., in early June. This will provide a great opportunity to stock up on gently used books and audiovisual materials for all ages and interests at bargain prices. Most items are priced at $1 and 50 cents each with some items specially marked.
