Independence Square Tree Lighting Ceremony
November 2nd, 2009
The Independence Square Tree Lighting Ceremony is this Saturday November 7th. The north steps of the beautifully restored Courthouse lawn will be the site of Holiday Magic. Visitors will enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the season with hot cider, kettle corn, roasting chestnuts, carolers, festive dancing and, of course, a visit from St Nick himself. Santa will arrive from the lofty heights of the historic clock tower high above the Courthouse. A spirited reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, celebrity appearances, holiday music, and sleigh rides will be additional treats. At 6 p.m. Mayor Reimal and County Executive Mike Sanders will throw the switch lighting the Queen City Tree. Fee for sleigh rides.

Holiday Open House on Independence Square
November 1st, 2009
The Holidays have arrived on the Independence Square! Enjoy the festive atmosphere as you meander through the sparkling shops and begin that holiday shopping! Stroll through decorated shops to see the new Christmas merchandise and enjoy an occasional cookie or treat.
The festivities will begin at 2pm with the arrival of jolly old St. Nick himself in a horse drawn sleigh. The rest of the day will include school choirs, a performance by the Missouri Town Village Dancers and visits with Santa. The shops of the Square have decorated their windows for the Holidays and will add to the celebration by opening their doors for the annual Holiday Open House.
The shops will have special treats and displays to add to the festive air. The culmination of the day will be the lighting of the tree (and Square!) at 5:57pm followed by a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
When is Holiday Open House on Independence Square 2009?
Friday November 6th and Saturday November 7th, 2009 from 10am to 5pm. There is also the Independence Square Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday.
